Introduction to Linear Regression in Excel Linear regression is a statistical technique/method used to study the relationship between two continuous quantitative variables. In this technique, independent variables are used to predict the value of a dependent variable. Linear Regression is a statistical tool in excel that is used as a predictive analysis model to check the relationship between two sets of data of variables. Using this analysis we can estimate the relationship between two or more variables. We can see two kinds of variables i.e. “Dependent Variable & Independent Variable”. Microsoft Excel has a few statistical functions that can help you to do linear regression analysis such as LINEST, SLOPE, INTERCPET, and CORREL. The LINEST function uses the least squares regression method to calculate a straight line that best explains the relationship between your variables and returns an array describing that line. The Linear Regression Functions Excel also includes linear regression functions that you can find the slope, intercept and r square values with for y and x data arrays.
