1. When putting on or removing your watch strap, take care not to pull it excessively as this can and will stretch it out unnecessarily. Leather stretches, that's a fact, but pulling it hard can cause that to happen worse than normal. 2. When putting on or removing your watch strap, take care not to bend back your long strap when inserting the buckle tang into the buckle hole.  Don’t wash the strap directly using water. Instead, put a small dab of good hand soap on the cloth and rub both sides of the leather watch strap, rinse the cloth with clean water, and then wipe it over the strap to make it clean. Air-dry the watch strap till it gets completely dry from inside. Wipe the watch band gently in a circular motion with the soapy rag. Clean both sides of the band. Use a clean, damp cotton cloth to wipe over the leather again to remove the soap residue. Dry the leather thoroughly with a clean cotton cloth. Lay the watch in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight to dry further. With boots, if the leather is kept conditioned and not allowed to dry out it will rarely pick up other liquids and stain badly. (Other liquids being every day stuff like water, skin oil, a light splash of olive oil in the kitchen etc.) Mink oil is a great conditioner for leathers that will see rough environments like work boots, hiking boots, saddles, etc but will darken the leather and leave a bit of a film. A leather watch band is in direct contact with the skin on a daily basis, and the sweat, body oils, dead skin cells and dust can accumulate on the leather. Not only will this dull the look of the leather, it can make the watch band begin to smell and may even break down the leather itself. Mix together equal amounts of distilled vinegar and linseed oil. Using a lint-free cloth, rub the mixture into the leather, then buff with a clean, dry cloth. This will clean the leather. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for deodorizing in between cleanings. Put the pen cap up on the edge of the leather and run the chisel along the leather. Then, on the groove, start marking holes with the pointed chisel or fork. To keep it as even as I can, I put the first two points on the chisel in the last two points I made. when I get to the curve I only keep the first point on the chisel on the last point.

How to Clean a Leather Watch Strap. If letting your watch strap breathe doesn’t eliminate the odor, it may be time to clean your strap. To clean your leather watch strap, follow these steps: Remove the strap from your watch and use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe off both sides.

Oil your leather straps often throughout their life, let them dry out, after wearing them, at least a couple of days. I also spray food grade silicone spray on the underside of my straps to keep out the moisture/ salt from my wrist. I also use Bick's 4 leather treatment on the top side. You can get it on eBay if not in the USA. Mix a tablespoon of your baking soda into water of equal amount to form a paste. Then apply the paste on each part of your watch leather strap, and leave it on for a while. Subsequently, wash your paste off, and leave it to fully dry before reattaching your watch to the watch strap. 1.
