Frac stages oil and gas
The seven steps of oil and natural gas extraction STEP 1: Preparing the Rig Site. STEP 2: Drilling. STEP 3: Cementing and Testing. STEP 4: Well Completion. STEP 5: Fracking. STEP 6: Production and Fracking Fluid Recycling. STEP 7: Well Abandonment and Land Restoration. The process is referred to as multi-stage hydraulic fracturing. Commonly it takes an average of 10 to 15 stages to ensure adequate coverage of the reservoir to maximize the recovery of the oil or gas it contains. The number of stages depends on the lateral length of the well. Horizontal wells commonly have 30-40 frac stages now, and the average number of stages per horizontal well in the US is tracking around 16 today. Compare that to the average of just 9 stages per horizontal well back in 2011 and the average vertical well, which is frac’ed with just 4 stages, and it really puts into perspective how much downhole intensity has increased as we pursue unconventionals. At Stage Completions, we’re driving the oil and gas completions industry forward with disruptive technology for downhole single-point entry fracturing. Traditional single-point entry fracturing systems have limitations that fail to meet design-change demands all in a single system. Put simply, hydraulic fracturing is the use of fluid and material to create or restore small fractures in a formation in order to stimulate production from new and existing oil and gas wells. This creates paths that increase the rate at which fluids can be produced from the reservoir formations, in some cases by many hundreds of percent.
What is Fracking. At this stage, even if you’re not in the oil and gas industry, you have probably heard the term ‘fracking’ and possibly have a basic idea of what it means. It’s actually quite a simple concept, that belies its significance in the extraction industries.

It’s important to understand that fracking is a small part of a much larger operation to get oil and gas from a mile below the surface into storage tanks for market. Fracking takes about two to three days in what is roughly a 10- to 14-day process of drilling and completing a well.
